Monroe Streetscape Project

A NEW GREEKTOWN:

Honoring History, Embracing the Future

Coming Summer 2026

The Monroe Streetscape Redesign Project is a transformative initiative led by the Greektown Neighborhood Partnership to revitalize one of Detroit’s most historic corridors. Supported by $20 million in state funding, this project reimagines one of Detroit’s most treasured pedestrian corridors, transforming Monroe Street in Greektown into a safer, more walkable and engaging public space.

Planned improvements include upgraded sidewalks and granite pavers, enhanced lighting, public Wi-Fi, integrated sound infrastructure, and beautified landscaping—all designed to celebrate the district’s cultural identity while supporting local businesses and improving the pedestrian experience. By investing in infrastructure, aesthetics, and accessibility, the project aims to preserve Greektown’s legacy while paving the way for its future.

Construction is underway and is expected to be completed by summer 2026, when the district will officially unveil “A New Greektown.” All Greektown businesses remain open and are accessible while the work is completed. Pedestrian access to Monroe Street will remain open throughout construction, though Monroe Street is closed to vehicular traffic until the project is complete.
